Poznan was once the capital of Poland, and still retains its status as the capital of Wielkopolska. Poznan lies midway between Berlin and Warsaw; for centuries it helped the town maintain its relevance. During World War II, the city (especially the old part) was badly damaged, but was later restored to its former splendor. The huge Old Town Square, Old Rieneck - one of the most beautiful squares in Europe. Here you see a lot of amazing historical sights and restaurants, and here is the center of nightlife in the city. Cathedral of St. Peter and Paul is one of the oldest cathedrals in Poland.
