Rotterdam, Netherlands

In the XIII century. a city which is now considered the most modern in the Netherlands, was a fishing village. Over time it has become a center of industry and trade, but in 1940, German bombers destroyed the city center and port. Now, however, the unique architecture of Rotterdam attracts a lot of tourists making cycling in this modern cosmopolitan city. Old Dutch-style houses are still preserved in the historic district Delfskhaven, where in 1620 the pilgrims set sail. Such cultural events as the summer carnival and concerts of classical music, allow Rotterdam to compete with Amsterdam.
